2008 Arizona Senior Olympics Inline Skate Event a Success!
This years ASO Inline skate event was a big success, despite having to change the venue last minute and move the start time later to accommodate the change. Thank goodness Ted made it!
We had a wonderful safe and sunny day with no real problems, although we didn't anticipate the cycling event to get done at the same time as ours....but, all was good and plenty of medals to go around for the awards!
I want to especially thank my Co-commissioner, Bob Franklin for keeping me on top of things. My hope was to let "him" relax and just focus on his own race! He certainly looked great crossing that finish line!
A heart-felt thanks to volunteers, Chris Franklin and Cathy Smith for years of registration perfection! They even helped with the finish line results. Also thanks to Michelle Gaylor and Florence Wilson, for handling the turn-around, to Mark Gaylor for arranging the clock, and Joelle Goldman actually helped with the runners event as well as ours, so Jeff Katzman of the ASO thanks you too! And a big thanks to all the others that put the effort in to come and help even if it was just cheering the finishers on or taking pictures! We had more volunteers than I ever expected and for that I am truly grateful.
Please note: As I mentioned before, we are no longer going to be funded by the City of Phoenix, therefore, we will be looking for corporate sponsors as well as donations to keep our event running. Remember this event will "automatically grow" as our birthday allows us, so plan on attending it at some point!
